Training healthcare workers and saving lives
Newlands Clinic also wants to make a difference beyond its own walls. Providing well-founded training for healthcare workers means we can share our life-saving knowledge tailored specifically to the situation in Zimbabwe.
Newlands Clinic Training Centre provides training in the treatment of HIV patients to several hundred local healthcare workers every year. Our courses give doctors and nurses specific insights into the work of Newlands Clinic, and they can then pass on this life-saving knowledge at other clinics throughout Zimbabwe.

Healthcare staff must be well trained in order to ensure proper treatment for HIV patients. We seek to address this need with the ongoing courses in our Training Centre. The lecturers include Newlands Clinic staff as well as external experts.
Treating HIV properly
We hold two-week intensive courses roughly once a month, giving doctors and nurses the opportunity to learn how to effectively treat HIV and Aids in children, adolescents and adults. This is essential given that the virus quickly adapts to new conditions, and dangerous resistance can form if the treatment is not carried out properly.
Cooperation and mentoring
Our training courses have given rise to cooperation with other organisations. Three clinics run by Population Services International have taken on the Newlands Clinic treatment model in its entirety, while others receive mentoring support. Our software ePOC is now also in use at other clinics, where it is helping to improve the quality of treatment.
Training courses across Zimbabwe
There is a great need for training of health care workers and doctors in HIV management all over the country. To increase the effectiveness of training our team is conducting courses at various governmental hospitals across Zimbabwe and offers tailor-made mentoring. Decentralized training will go a long way in improving access to training. The Newlands Clinic Training Center wants to ensure a sustainable response to the HIV epidemic.
